Taste of South Park, the neighborhood's marquee food crawl, also disappeared around 2020 and stayed gone for five years. Both comebacks have been running in parallel since 2025, and this fall marks the second full season for each, not a one-time reopening.

The Building That Waited

The site's new life has a name: South Park Commons. It houses four businesses that opened together in March 2025, built into the shell of the old Hamilton's space. Bock is the anchor, a German-focused neighborhood pub from Brian Jensen, the longtime owner of Bottlecraft and Vino Carta in Little Italy. Biersal, a food truck that had built a following since 2017 under chef Matt Schooner, moved into its first permanent kitchen inside Bock. Pop Pie Co. and Stella Jean's Ice Cream took the space next door, giving the block a savory-and-sweet pairing that didn't exist here before.

Jensen has been careful not to frame Bock as a Hamilton's revival. As he put it when the bar opened,

"It feels really natural."

The comment reads almost understated next to what it took to get there. The buildout ran roughly four years longer than planned because of the extent of the fire and water damage, and the pub that finally opened carries thirty-plus taps split between Old World styles and the newer conversation of West Coast IPAs, plus a wine list built around Austrian and German bottles curated through Jensen's Vino Carta connection.

The Date That Connects Both Stories

Here's the detail a routine event roundup would miss. When Bock finally opened in March 2025, its first Oktoberfest season didn't start right away. The bar ran a spring Frühlingsfest as a warmup that April, then launched its inaugural rotating Oktoberfest series that September, opening on September 19, 2025, and running weekly tap and food rotations for about two weeks after.

This year, South Park's own event calendar puts Taste of South Park, the food crawl's second outing since its five-year disappearance, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from noon to 4 p.m. Same calendar date, one year apart, two different comebacks. It isn't evidence of a coordinated push between the bar and the business group. It's closer to proof that both institutions have settled into an actual fall rhythm instead of a one-time return, enough that the dates now echo each other by accident.

Bock built that first Oktoberfest run as a rotating series, moving through German brewery-style themes week to week rather than a single weekend blowout. If the bar keeps that format going, expect a similar multi-week run again this year, even if the exact start date shifts a few days from the 19th.

Station Tavern on Fern remains the dog-and-family stop with a patio built for lingering, and The Rose keeps its natural wine list and small plates going a few doors down. Mothership, the plant-based bar from the Kindred team, adds a second creative kitchen to the same short walk, along with a coffee counter that has become a genuine morning habit for people nearby.

Not everything from a few years ago made it. South Park Brewing and Del Sur have both closed in recent seasons, which is worth naming because it means the corridor you're walking this fall isn't the same one from 2022. The mix has shifted toward Bock's beer-and-shuffleboard model and away from a couple of the bars that defined the old 30th Street beer crawl.
