Hillcrest's Summer Has Quietly Moved Off Normal Street

Hillcrest's Summer Has Quietly Moved Off Normal Street

If you've lived in Hillcrest for more than a year, your Sunday habit probably has muscle memory attached to it. Coffee somewhere on University, the walk down to Normal Street, an hour at the farmers market, home by two. That route doesn't work anymore. Not because anything closed, but because the center of gravity in the neighborhood shifted a few blocks north while everyone was paying attention to the construction fencing.

The short version is this: with the Normal Street Promenade under construction, the market picked up and moved to University Avenue, and the wave of new restaurants that started opening in 2024 and 2025 has settled almost entirely along Park Boulevard and University. The walk that makes sense in Hillcrest right now is a different walk than the one you were doing last summer. This post is about what's on it.

The market is on University now, and it changes the day

The Hillcrest Farmers Market has been the neighborhood's Sunday anchor since 1997.
